Hearing loss in young adults can be caused by genetics, noise exposure, or viral infections. Hearing loss is usually a combination of age and the amount of time you’ve been exposed to risk factors such as noise.

Find others who can relate to your situation. If you haven’t come across any other young adults with hearing loss, you may feel very alone and frightened about the future. Your hearing loss is not going to define you or hold you back in life. Just remember, there is life after hearing aids!

By reducing your exposure to music as much as possible (especially loud music) you can significantly reduce the risk of damaging your ears. However, if you do plan on attending a concert or festival this summer then just remember to wear earplugs whenever possible and try not to stand too close to anyone playing an instrument or singing so that you don’t have difficulty hearing later on in life.
